The fire pump room is located in P2, under the ramp from P1.

We have 2 fire pumps – the primary is rated at 1,000 gal/min, and the secondary at 750 gal/min

The pipes which carry sprinkler water up through the building up to the roof

We recently tested the fire pump system with a full-up test.  Normally, when the pumps are tested, there’s a test loop in the fire pump room where the water is pumped through which simulates the work pumping to the roof.

For this test, the flow was measured at the roof.  However, 1,000 gallons per minute is a lot of water, and it had to be released through what’s called a Hose Monster (yes, that’s it’s real name).   They take a 2 inch fire hose at pressure (think how far a fire hose will spray water!), and diffuse it through 2 six inch outlets – at a much lower velocity.
